Kimberley Stapleton Fobes

d. December 18, 2023

Kimberley Stapleton Fobes, a beloved mother, teacher, and all-around remarkable woman, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18th, 2023, surrounded by her children and her mother after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Kim was born on March 25, 1952, in Fairhope, Alabama, to Wesley and Bebe Stapleton. She graduated from Fairhope High School and went on to attend Judson College and Mobile College. Kim's dedication and hard work led her to attain a master's degree in English and education from Mobile College. On November 23, 1981, Kim married the love of her life, David Fobes, and together they were blessed with three children: Aaron Gray Fobes, David Gray Fobes II, and Lauren Audrey Fobes. Kim's life was marked by both joy and sorrow. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Aaron Gray Fobes, her husband, David Fobes, and her father, Wesley Stapleton. However, she is survived by her loving mother, Bebe Stapleton, her brother Wes Stapleton (Carol), her brother Jeffrey Stapleton, her son David Gray Fobes II (Julia), her daughter Lauren Audrey Fobes (Jeffrey Spencer), and her cherished grandchildren, David, Henry, Finn, and Sibley. Kim was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an avid reader, a dedicated teacher, an artist, and a rescuer of both animals and people. She never gave up on anyone and made a difference in the lives of those she encountered. Kim was also a skilled baker and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Above all, Kim's greatest role in life was being a mother. She was a loving and devoted mother who would drop everything to support her children. She fought for them, loved them unconditionally, and provided unwavering support. Being a mother to Gray and Lauren was a role she took to heart and cherished deeply. In addition to her role as a mother, Kim was a college professor at the University of Mobile for 25 years. Her passion for teaching and her ability to connect with her students left a lasting impact. Many of her students found solace in her presence, seeking a home-cooked meal or a place to stay. Kim's dedication to education touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her career. Kim's talents extended beyond the classroom. She was a jack of all trades, from tiling floors to baking and making homemade jelly. However, her favorite role in later years was being Granna to David, Henry, Finn, and Sibley. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and embraced the joy they brought into her life. Kimberley Stapleton Fobes will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire and touch the lives of those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
