The Loss of a Pioneer

Kingsley McCallum was a creative force in the earliest days of the petroleum industry’s evolution to better serve the needs of an expanding fleet fuel network. He was a pioneer in the Fleet Card industry, founding Fuelman in 1984 and serving for many years as President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board as the business grew into a nationwide enterprise. The success of Fuelman helped lay the foundation for a host of financial and analytical services previously undiscovered.

In the early 2000’s he founded Automated Fuel Technologies in West Palm Beach, FL, and since 2012 he worked with the Cadence Petroleum Group (formerly Davison Fuels). From David Padgett, SVP - Fuels & Fleet Cards, “Kingsley helped Davison launch our Fuel Master Fleet Card (now CPG Fleet Card) in 2012…He was mine, and many others, mentor in the industry, and he will be greatly missed.”

Away from his professional life, Kingsley loved restoring sports cars, refinishing boats, and taking on mechanical challenges entirely for the pleasure of learning something new. He enjoyed offshore sport fishing with his sons, spending days afield in the duck marshes of Louisiana, and was an active member of the Rex Society in the Carnival circle of New Orleans.

He had the opportunity to travel much of the world as part of his career, but also enjoyed moments of spontaneous adventure. He once flew himself and his wife on a whirlwind trip to Brazil simply because he had always loved the song, “The Girl from Ipanema”, and wanted to see the famous beach with his own eyes. He sought joy in life, and everything he did.

He will always be remembered as a man who embraced the concepts of challenge, risk, and creativity as elements of a successful life, and he leaves behind a legacy of accomplishment and life-long friendships.

Kingsley Archibald McCallum, Jr. 81, of Fairhope, AL died peacefully in his home on March 8th, 2024.
