Kurtis William Manteufel was born on August 29, 1987, to Ida Scoggins in New London, CT. Kurt, a resident of Spanish Fort, AL passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the age of 38.
Kurt was a graduate of Trinity High School. He received his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas in Austin as a Chemical Engineer with an emphasis in biochemistry, and began his career at the Valero Refinery in Louisiana, followed by Suncor Refinery in Colorado, and most recently he was the Operations Support Engineer at Vertex Energy. He loved to grill and go hiking, play World of Warcraft, and brew his own beer while listening to his favorite 90’s grunge bands.
Kurt had a determined, meticulous personality. He was always planning ahead, researching multiple topics to satisfy his vast curiosity, and consumed by the desire to pursue absolute truth. Despite his serious demeanor his laughter could light up the room, and he was well known for his quirky sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Bonnie Manteufel and grandparents Roy and Joyce Lovell. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Manteufel; children, Annabelle age 12, Helena age 4, Benjamin age 2, and many cherished relatives including his grandfather Robert Manteufel, his mother Ida Scoggins and stepfather Brad Scoggins, his sister Crystal Sorrell and his nieces and nephew Paige, Brittany, and Kayden Sorrell, and his best friend Jonathan Simrell. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Kurt’s Life will be held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne, AL, Monday, October 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
