LaDonna June Parris Youngblood                  19 September 1931 to 23 October 2024

Donna Youngblood was born outside Custer, South Dakota, delivered by her grandmother literally in a little house on the prairie. One of 13 children, she was a smart, funny, capable woman who truly believed cleanliness was next to godliness. While it would be safe to perform surgery on her kitchen floor, you would feel guilty for messing it up. Living in Custer with her aunt and uncle, working in their bakery, so she could attend high school, her antics led to her having a permanent seat in the principal's office where she became more of an aide than chastened. She and two of her sisters moved to Austin, Texas where she met her future husband, Newt, on a blind date. Their marriage lasted seventy years, taking them all over the world during their Navy career. She had two daughters, Jacki and Becky, and over the course of that career, packed up, moved long distances, found and established new homes many times. There was no challenge she was unable to master and instilled in her daughters a confidence that there was nothing they could not do. Known as a great cook, she was a wonderful hostess whose pecan pies were positively photogenic. An avid golfer, she reveled in shooting two holes in one. Donna lived an amazing life that ranged from the Great Depression through watching men walk on the moon to seeing a new century and across three continents. She always left a place better than she found it and was a proud, loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband Captain Newt Youngblood, USN, ret. of Fairhope, AL, daughters Captain Jacki Arrowood, USN, ret. of Edenton, NC and Becky Daniel and Grandson Will Daniel of Fairhope, AL, brother Bob and wife Linda Parris of Rapid City, SD, sister Betty Cramer of Pulaski, NY, sister Ila Larsen of Dallas, TX, sister-in-law Joan Smith of Houston, TX, and enough nieces and nephews to fill a banquet hall.
