Larry A. Wilson December 18, 1939 – September 18, 2025
Major (Ret.) Larry A. Wilson, a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, award-winning writer of short stories and poetry, and devoted father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, after a life filled with service, creativity, travel, and love.
Born on December 18, 1939, Larry served his country with distinction, traveling the world throughout his military career before retiring as a Major. After his service, he settled in Alabama—first in Montgomery, and later in Fairhope—where he found joy in community, writing, and the simple pleasures of life.
Larry was preceded in death by beloved wife, Helen; cherished daughter, Diane Cobis; parents, Rodney and Louise; brother, Clayton; mother-in-law, Helen Poland; and many faithful canine companions over the years, including his most recent, Bailey and Charlie.
He will be remembered for his warmth, wit, storytelling, and deep appreciation for life’s quieter moments—especially his favorite way to spend an evening: relaxing with friends by the pool while watching the sunset over Mobile Bay.
Larry is survived by his caring son, James and daughter-in-law, Karin; granddaughters, Ashley and Grace; his children’s mother, Binky Allen, and his treasured friend, Carol Hull, who brought joy and companionship in his later years.
At his request, there will be no viewing or service. His final resting place will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
