Lawrence Glen Stokes, affectionately known as "Big L," or "B-Daddy," died unexpectedly at home in Foley on Tuesday, May 26. He was 67 years old. He leaves behind a legacy as loud, joyful, and as full of life as he was.

Born on August 4, 1958, in Troy, AL, Lawrence was a man who truly never met a stranger. He was the joyful life of his family, a kid at heart, and a constant chaser of a good time. He was known throughout his life for his immense gentleness, kindness, and endless supply of dad jokes.

Beyond the laughs, Lawrence was a man of deep faith. His love of God and family were incredibly important to him, serving as his anchor. He was a profoundly present husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was fiercely faithful and loyal to his family.

Lawrence was a master collector of hidden treasures. He never saw a piece of salvage he didn't like and somehow end up owning. He saw potential in everything and everyone.

When he wasn't bringing home treasures, Lawrence could almost certainly be found cheering on his beloved Tide. He was, without a doubt, Bama's biggest fan and was easily recognized by his Alabama hat and shirt.

Lawrence served his community for ten years on the sign crew for the Alabama Highway Department in Troy and 23 years in maintenance with Bender Vacation Rentals in Gulf Shores. Known as "The TV Guy," he loved making friends with vacationers and epitomized the idea of hospitality.

Lawrence was welcomed into eternity by his parents, BB and Edra Elaine Stokes, and nephew, Nick Stokes. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeny (Workum) Stokes, of Foley, and his three precious daughters, Elise Stokes of Athens, AL, Doerun Stokes of Charlotte, NC, and Emily Jayne (Stokes) Corcoran of Foley, AL. He is also survived by his two cherished grandsons, Nolan and Elliot Corcoran, and was looking forward to the birth of his granddaughter in August. Lawrence also leaves behind a son-in-law, six cherished siblings, sisters and brothers-in-law, and numerous nephews, nieces, and greats.

Big L lived fully, loved deeply, and left his family with a lifetime of laughter and beautiful memories. He will be missed beyond measure by everyone who loved him, and his family will continue to Roll Tide in his honor.

A celebration of Lawrence's life will be held November 23 at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Troy, AL, followed by burial. Time has yet to be determined. Attire will be Christmas and Bama themed.
