Leslie Cobb Swiacki, a native of Massachusetts and a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, for more than 30 years, was found passed away in her home on March 20, 2025.
Born on March 8, 1961, Leslie grew up in the town of Sturbridge, MA. She graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall preparatory school in Wallingford, CT, attended Quinnipiac College in Hamden, CT, and later graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI. She served as a chef with highly rated restaurants in Boston, MA, Anchorage, AK, and West Palm Beach, FL, and as both a chef and wine sommelier at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL.
Leslie first lived in the Fairhope area in the early 1980s and moved back permanently later that decade. After her time at The Grand Hotel, she founded and ran Creature Comforts, a pet sitting business, and later worked for many years as a mail carrier for the Summerdale branch of the U.S. Postal Service, where she was well known and liked by her many rural route customers as well as her USPS colleagues.
Leslie volunteered for many charitable organizations in the Fairhope area. Chief among these were local animal shelters and humane services. Leslie had a lifelong love of animals, fostered many abandoned dogs and cats over the years, and maintained an extensive feline family of her own that never failed to delight visiting friends and family members, especially children.
Leslie’s family and friends will remember her caring, happy and fun-loving nature, her love of costumes, wigs and Mardi Gras necklaces, and especially the lasting relationships she was responsible for creating and fostering during her lifetime. They will also remember the often-debilitating health challenges she experienced in her later years.
Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, William Adam Swiacki and Charlotte Barker Lester Swiacki. She is survived by her brother, William Adam Swiacki, Jr., (Jeanne Gengler Swiacki); her nephews William Joseph Swiacki Greh (Katherine Rizzolo Greh) and Matthew Gengler Swiacki; and her several maternal and paternal cousins.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Leslie’s memory, donations may be made to the Baldwin County Humane Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or World Wildlife Fund.
