Lewis George “L.G.” Herrington 98 of Moselle, MS. died on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Fairhope AL.
Lewis was born on March 22, 1927, the second of 5 children born to Roy and Verdie Herrington.
Raised during the Great Depression he started his young life picking cotton alongside his older sister in the cotton fields of Mississippi. Lewis was a great storyteller and the hardships he faced during his life would become the basis for cherished stories always told with a whimsical flare. He was a resourceful young man; this became evident in his ability to build and remodel his family’s homes, as well as the variety of jobs he held throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was assigned to the Tank Division.
Lewis was a humble man, modest and unpretentious, who listened more than he spoke and who made friends everywhere he went. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Peggy O’Daniel; his children, Larry Herrington, Gary Len Herrington Sr, Virginia Nell Wilson, Gynell (Cookie) Burkhardt; his 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; his surviving sister Dorothy Dennis; and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley AL. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service.
