Lila Drummond Webb Dexter passed away at home on December 24, 2025. Her grace, beauty, kindness, and deep love of family defined her. Her sincere friendships encompassed all ages and walks of life.
Lila spent the first part of her life in Camden, Alabama, surrounded by siblings, extended family and many lifelong friends. After graduating from the University of Alabama, she returned to Camden to raise her children, and became a well loved elementary school teacher, affectionately known to everyone as “Miss Lila”. She created a beautiful and gracious home, welcoming friends who found love and comfort in her presence and around her kitchen table. After moving to Mobile, she began many years of welcoming grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Mimi”. She was a serious student of scripture, very artistically talented, an avid reader, but more than anything else, she was the epitome of a lady. She had a deep appreciation for nature, loved flowers of every kind, and never took for granted the beautiful sunsets over Mobile Bay.
Lila was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Camden, and later of Springhill Presbyterian and Trinity Presbyterian in Fairhope. Her life was a beautiful example of strong faith that encompassed and sustained her until her death. Her deep contentment, humility and unwavering peace leaves a wonderful example for all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lila and John Webb, sister Eugenia Wetherbee, and husband Kendall Dexter.
She is survived by her brother, John (Evelyn) Webb III, children Lila (Charles) Bailey, Virginia (Stephan) Siniard, and Hunter (Mindy) McDuffie III, stepchildren Katherine (Ellis) Allen, Kendall (Amanda) Dexter, David (Cathy) Dexter and Liz Ramey, 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful to Tracey Miller and her team of angels who skillfully, compassionately and respectfully cared for her until the end of her life.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 11:30am at Trinity Presbyterian in Fairhope with visitation immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baytreat, in care of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile Street, STE 100, Fairhope Alabama 36532 or First Presbyterian Church of Camden, 203 Broad Street, Camden, Alabama 32726.
