Linda Kay Florence was born on October 26, 1944, in Georgetown, KY to Athalene May Florence and CC “Hob” Florence. Linda was a Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Mother in Law, Aunt, Ganny, Great Ganny, Friend and Colleague but most importantly, a Christian and child of God who was called home from an illness to begin her eternal life with Him on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Athalene and CC Florence. She is survived by her two sons, Dwight Evan (Cheryl) & William Riley Pumphrey both of Finchville, KY and 5 Grandchildren: Madison, Campbell, Foster & William Pumphrey and Emma Downs (Justin) and her first greatgrandchild, Beaux Downs. She is also survived by a brother, Steve Florence (Adonna) and his family and numerous extended family and friends.
Linda was a resident of Georgetown, Shelbyville, Louisville, Owensboro, and Finchville KY. For the last 28 years she resided in Fairhope, Alabama. Linda graduated from Scott County High School in Georgetown, KY where she was a Kentucky Junior Miss. She was a graduate of Georgetown College and earned her Master of Education from the University of Louisville and was a special education teacher in the state of Kentucky for 30 years. She was passionate about gardening and working in her lawn. She also enjoyed taking walks, playing bridge, solving puzzles and spending time with her many friends. Upon her retirement, she volunteered at the local hospital gift shop, was a volunteer at the local Adult/Arts Center in Fairhope and very active at her church. The most important things to Linda were family, friends and God.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jerry and Cheri Forte who were instrumental in communicating information and caring for Linda in her final days. Your kindness and care for Linda went above and beyond and was a comfort to her family.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, in Fairhope, AL at the Fairhope United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30-11:00 AM.
