Margaret Mikkelsen Moore passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022, with her family in the same home in which she was born almost 99 years before. The proud daughter of Norwegian immigrants, Mrs. Moore was born on July 29, 1923, and she lived a life filled with love and laughter. Her parents Jorgen and Bertha set shining examples of Christian service that she followed for the rest of her life. She and her husband Louie raised three children in a loving home. She was his devoted wife and caretaker until his death in 1982. In the years after, she traveled extensively with her family as well as with the Foley Senior Travel Club. She loved music, her garden, and cooking for everyone, especially her grandkids. As a lifelong resident of the Sonora community, Mrs. Moore was very active in the Marlow United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Summerdale School Alumni Association, and activities at the Sonora Community Hall. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her loving husband Louis “Louie”, her son Neal, and granddaughter Jennifer, as well as her siblings Roy Mikkelsen (Emelie), Hilda Ehrecke (Gus), Einar Mikkelsen (Ruth), Harold Mikkelsen (Helen), Helen Bauer (Hilbert), Esther Hobbs (Everett), Norman Mikkelsen, her older sister Maria Mikkelsen (d. 1910), and many cherished members of her husband’s family. She is survived by her children Leonard “Buddy” (Kathy) of Summerdale and Christina of Auburn, grandchildren Brooks Moore (Angie), Wesley Moore (Elizabeth), Kari Pierce, Patrick Pierce, Grayson Moore (Allison), Melanie Pierce, and Katy Rains (Casey), 6 great-grandchildren Libby, Finley, Grey, Max, William, and Tatum, daughters-in-law Margaret Childress Long and Frances Holk-Jones, brother-in-law Bill Moore (Evelyn), and a host of treasured nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dale Warriner, Jeannie Pumphrey, Ronnie Pumphrey, and Margaret and Louie’s niece Betty Long for their years of special friendship and care. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Marlow United Methodist Church Cemetery, Summerdale. A Memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at Marlow United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and friends are invited to stay for an extend visitation after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marlow United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 16135 County Road 9, Summerdale, AL 36580.
