Mary Amy Evans Sheldon

Mary Amy Evans Sheldon, age 85, a resident of Foley, AL, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Mom was determined, strong, and independent. She loved the outdoors, camping, having a garden and baking. She loved teaching and learning new things. She was a college sports fan – especially Auburn Tigers. When she retired, she was an avid painter. Her favorite Story was “The Grinch who Stole Christmas. “

Mary received a Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Biology and Education from University of South Alabama, a Master’s of Science Degree – Geology – University of Texas, Austin Texas, and a Ph.D of Geology / Paleontology – University of Rochester, Rochester New York. Mary had an extensive fulfilling career which included, a Science teacher at Foley High School for many years, a University professor at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, University of South Alabama, and University of Mobile. She was involved in many paleontological discoveries and digs throughout the United States and was involved in the local community activities in both Summerdale and Foley Alabama for many years. She was also involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for Summerdale. Mary inspired her grandchildren to become Eagle Scouts, and she mentor to many high school students to achieve their dreams.

Preceding her in death are her Husband, Ed Sheldon – died Feb 1, 2016; Sister, Ann Calagaz; Parents, Mary Patricia Sledd Evans and Thomas Dickinson Evans.

She is survived by; her five children, Mary Amy Sheldon-Lewis, Edwin Addison Sheldon, III, Mabel Annette Sheldon Salvatore, Theresa Lynn Sheldon Andersen, Patricia Mae Sheldon Lee; Grandchildren, David Glen Kilbourn, Michael Addison Kilbourn, Robert Steven Kilbourn, Edwin Sheldon, Alisa Sheldon, and Samuel Salvatore; Great Grandchildren, Laine Mae Kilbourn and Brooke Kilbourn; Nieces and Nephews, Pauline Calagaz McKean, Joe Calagaz, Tonya Calagaz Nelson; and many other loving relatives and friends.
