Mary Strickland Miley, born on January 1, 1937, in Geneva, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Spanish Fort, Alabama, after a long, full life that touched the hearts of many.
Mary was a proud graduate of Geneva High School, and her educational pursuits led her to the University of Alabama, where she earned her bachelor's degree, followed by a Master’s Degree from the University of South Alabama. Her love for learning was evident throughout her life, and she shared that passion with others, encouraging those around her to pursue their own educational journeys.
Her kind and welcoming nature made her a pillar of the community. Always putting others at ease, Mary had a special gift for storytelling. She created beautiful connections with family and friends alike, making every gathering an occasion filled with warmth and laughter. An avid fan of Alabama sports, she enjoyed watching ballgames, always with a Conecuh sausage dog by her side.
Mary's involvement in St. Paul Episcopal Church was a testament to her caring spirit. She volunteered in many capacities, leaving a lasting impact on the congregation through her selfless contributions. Whether she was assisting at the thrift store or participating in church activities, her dedication was heartfelt and unwavering.
A talented creator, Mary found joy in making Christmas tree skirts, crafting beautiful handbags, and designing unique Christmas cards that delighted her family and friends. Her creativity extended beyond her art, as she also played in a gospel band, bringing joy through her music.
Summers spent at Lake Junaluska in North Carolina became cherished memories, serving as a backdrop for time with family and friends. Her beloved white lab, Molly, was a constant companion, sharing in both quiet moments and lively gatherings.
Mary leaves behind her loving husband, Dale Miley, and her children: Averette Hale and her husband Charles, Frank Martin and his wife Mayelys, Andrew Martin and his wife Kathy, Don Miley and his wife Kristy, Craig Miley, and Glen Miley and his wife Jennifer. Mary had eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, creativity, and community spirit.
Mary Strickland Miley's funeral service will be held at St. Paul Episcopal Church on Thursday, January 29, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, when the family will receive friends, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
