Miriam Hairston Bailey passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Miriam was born on December 10,1959 in Mobile, Alabama. She was a graduate of Fairhope High School and Auburn University. She was a lifelong resident of Daphne.
Miriam lived her life as a faithful wife, mother, sister and daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Anatolize Herold and Hannon Spotswood Hairston. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Douglas Andrew Bailey, and her two adoring children Mary Catherine Bailey and William Hannon Bailey (Caroline), her sisters, Elizabeth Hairston Hall, and Susan Hairston Carter, 3 nieces, Nicole Carter Sciortino, Courtney Carter Griffith, and Erica Taylor Hall, nephew, Drew Bailey, and several wonderful great nephews and a great niece.
Miriam’s career began as Vice-President of Marketing at Southtrust Bank. After retiring from the bank, and spending time raising her family, Miriam returned to work at Christ the King Catholic School as a teacher’s aide. She was devoted to her first grade students, and was beloved by students and faculty alike. She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed working in her yard with her many pets. She was a Cub Scout leader and volleyball “mom.” She enjoyed being on Mobile Bay as a child and later with her children at her family’s home.
A deeply spiritual person, Miriam was a lifetime member of Christ the King Catholic Church, having gone to grade school there. Miriam devoted her life to her faith, family, friends and community.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep gratitude the kindness and compassion of Miriam’s sitters and caretakers, as well as the gifts of meals, flowers, and prayer cards from family and friends.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculata Center, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church on Friday, September 6, 2024. The family invites you to join them for a reception in the Immaculata Center immediately following the Mass.
