Mrs. Henrie Jean Conway

d. April 5, 2024

Fairhope

Henrie Jean Conway, nee, Duncan, was born April 3, 1929, in Whistler, Alabama and broke the bonds of mortality to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 5, 2024.

She was predeceased by her parents Henry Austin and Ada Jeanette Duncan, husbands, Herman Therrell and Charles Wilbur Conway, beloved son, Charles Thomas (Tommy) Conway and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by children, Danny Therrell (Carol) of Fairhope, AL, Linda Therrell of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Gary Conway (Angela) of Saginaw, MI, James Conway (Greta) of Mobile, AL, and Bonnie Conway of Alamogordo, NM; eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

A good and faithful servant of the Lord and a lady of strong Christian faith and values, our mother was a true example of living life by the Word. She was always composed, even amidst tragedy and chaos. Her tremendous Faith in Christ allowed her a grace and calm demeanor rarely witnessed. She was a rock that we all depended upon and clung to. Even in her declining years, she was a fountain of sage advice and wisdom. Ever prayerful, she ALWAYS maintained that everything was according to God’s plan and things would occur exactly the way He intended and in His time.

She gave the best hugs. After raising six children to adulthood, she was an expert in the art of first aid and had all the local physicians’ telephone numbers memorized. When one of us received a nick, bruise or burn, a touch of her hand and a soothing, motherly word instantly made things better.

Each of her children carry their own special memories of her in their hearts. We grieve her greatly but rejoice in the fact that she is now receiving the reward of a life so well lived and so tightly bound in the Spirit.

Many in the North Baldwin community remember and admired her. She helped so many through her work with the Alabama Department of Human Resources. She would go above and beyond to help someone truly in need, often by pulling all the cash from her purse and somehow, anonymously getting it in the right hands. She never sought recognition or adulation for what she did. She considered it a part of her Divinely inspired mission here on earth.

One of the kindest and most remarkable compliments given about Mama was by our cousin Patricia Conway. Patricia said, “Before your mother came to town, I thought I knew what beauty was. When Jean arrived, she gave me a whole new idea of true beauty and grace. I’ve always looked to her as my role model for being a lady, wife and mother.”

Our mother has certainly entered the Joy of the Lord (Matthew 25:23)
