Nicholas “Nick” Versluys
May 16, 1989 - November 14, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas “Nick” Versluys, who died on November 14, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama, after a courageous battle with cancer. Even at 35 years of age, he has lived a life filled with love, strength, and unwavering loyalty. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on May 16, 1989 to Mary Gannaway and William Versuys, who both preceded him in death.
Nick’s journey of love and family was always expanding as he became part of so many people’s lives. His life reflected the way he loved to spend time with family and friends (including his cats and anyone’s pets). He enjoyed gaming, movies, cars, “truck stuff,” electronics, helping in his churches, giving gifts, his yearly birthday pedicure, watching the Michigan Wolverines or Dallas Cowboys, making Legendary trades at local Pokemon trade nights, and so much more.
Nick was also known for his devotion to his wife, You, who made him even more wonderful. He married the love of his life, You Pan, on July 10, 2021, in Arkansas. They complimented each other in the most amazing ways, and showed everyone the power of love and loyalty in their relationship and their home. Together, they recently made a home in Mobile, where Nick excelled as the manager of Hank’s Fine Furniture.
He had several jobs prior to beginning his career at Hanks, and in each one he was known for his strong work ethic that showed his incredible resilience and adaptability. While he was clearly known by family and customers for his work ethic, he was even more known for his generosity and loyalty, even to a fault. His spirit and passion for life has forever changed his wife, family, and countless friends.
Nick is survived by his wife, You Pan; the parents he adopted, Mark and Kelley McDonald; his siblings, Michael & Gabby Hoffmann, Willie Versluys, Kevin Versluys, and Katrina & Matt Mitchell, Sara & Justin Snell, Candice & Joe Testa; the siblings he chose: Malachi & Dasha McDonald, Madeline & Buddy Hobbs, Ben McDonald & Pamela Mena, and Nate McDonald & Madison Stroth; and seven nieces and six nephews.
A memorial service will be held to honor Nick’s life and legacy on Tuesday, November 26 at 2:00 pm in the chapel at New Life Church at 633 S Country Club Rd. in Conway, Arizona, where family and friends are invited to celebrate the beautiful impact he had on our world. There will be time for a family visitation at 1:00 pm, and everyone is welcome to share memorabilia and stories about Nick. We will have tables set up for those who would like to bring items to displayduring that time.
