Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Norine Ann McCarthy, a beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend.

Born in Chicago, Norine lived a life rooted in faith, family, compassion, and love. She married her husband, James, in 1983, beginning a marriage and life together that spanned more than four decades. Together, they raised their two children, Quinlan and Selina, who were among the most important parts of her life.

A devoted Catholic, Norine’s faith was a guiding presence throughout her life. Her relationship with God was deeply important to her, and she remained active in her faith through Bible study and fellowship with others who shared her beliefs.

Norine dedicated her professional life to education as a special education teacher. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless students, offering patience, encouragement, understanding, and guidance. Her work was more than a profession; it was an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.

Just over ten years ago, Norine made Alabama her home, where she embraced a new chapter of life and became an active member of her community. She found friendship and fellowship through several social groups, including a memoir writing group, Bible study, and garden club. These connections allowed her to share her interests, build lasting friendships, and remain engaged in the activities she enjoyed.

Norine found particular happiness in her garden, where she loved tending to her roses and lilies. She also enjoyed watercolor painting and writing, expressing her creativity and appreciation for life’s beauty in her own unique ways.

Norine is survived by her devoted husband, James; her children, Quinlan and Selina; her sisters, Donna and Diane; and her brother, Bill. She will also be remembered by extended family, friends, fellow members of her community, former colleagues, and the many students whose lives she touched throughout her teaching career.

Norine’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her. However, her legacy will live on through the family she cherished, the students she inspired, the friendships she nurtured, and the faith that guided her life.

Like the roses and lilies she so lovingly tended, Norine’s memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in the loving embrace of God, and may perpetual light shine upon her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten
