Obituary

Norman Ellis Rodgers Jr., age 82, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones on September 11, 2026.

Norman was born in Mobile, Alabama, to Norman Ellis Rodgers Sr. and Gloria Roebuck Rodgers. Throughout his life, Norman was devoted to his family, his country, and his community.

Norman proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, retiring from military service in 1993. He also proudly served his community in law enforcement. Norman later enjoyed a long and successful career in the natural gas industry, a profession he truly loved and continued until his retirement in 2022.

Outside of his career, Norman was happiest outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, enjoyed wood carving, and looked forward to playing poker with his buddies. At home, he could often be found outside enjoying the day and watching the birds that visited his yard.

Above all else, Norman loved his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always knew how to make those around him laugh. One of his greatest joys in life was being “Pappy” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made certain that each of them knew just how deeply they were loved, and the love, laughter, and memories he gave them will remain with them always.

Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jo Ann Rodgers, who passed away in 2022; his father, Norman Ellis Rodgers Sr.; his mother, Gloria Roebuck Rodgers; his brother, William “Bill” Rodgers; and his brother-in-law, Clint Smith.

He is survived by his son, Timothy (Suzann) Rodgers; his grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew) Smith, Mary Rodgers, and Brooke Roberts; his great-grandchildren, Charlotte Roberts and Beau Rodgers-Potter; his siblings, Patsy Smith, Anthony (Cheryl) Rodgers, and David (Eileen) Rodgers; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation is planned for Thursday, 9/17/2026, evening, with family visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m. and visitation open to friends and the public from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home Chapel of Fairhope.  Norman will be laid to rest with military honors at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort on Friday, 9/18/2026, at 9:00 a.m.

Pallbearers will be David Rodgers, Jamie Rodgers, Justin Rodgers, Trent Rodgers, Heath Bennett, and Adam Howard. His great-grandson, Beau Rodgers-Potter, will serve as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Norman’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project reflecting his lifelong pride in and dedication to those who have served our country.

Norman lived a life of service, hard work, laughter, and, most importantly, love for his family. He leaves behind a family who knew without question how much their Pappy loved them. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will continue to be remembered, and his love will remain a part of his family for generations to come.
