Obituary

Pamella Sue Hennigan, affectionately known to all as Pam, passed away on March 2, 2026, comfortable and surrounded by her family at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. Born in Lafayette, IN, on January 29, 1960, she lived a life defined by boundless energy, sharp wit, and an open heart. She was 66 years old.

Pam faced life with what could only be described as 'moxy.' This was never more evident than during her courageous journey with breast cancer. For over 28 years, she did not merely fight her own battle, but she also became a beacon of encouragement and education for countless others facing similar diagnoses. Her resilience was matched only by her capacity to care for others. She loved openly, fully, and without reservation - reaching across any differences or disagreements, unwavering in her expressions of love and always willing to learn more and better understand the other person.

On June 7, 1979, Pam and Michael Hennigan were married. Together they built a family that began with the birth of their daughter, Allison, in 1985, followed by their sons, Matthew in 1988 and David in 1990. However, Pam’s definition of family was never limited by biology. Her home was a permanently open door of hospitality, hosting nine exchange students over a single decade. She also fostered several children, a journey that eventually brought Aimee Newsome back into the fold years later as a permanent second daughter, blessing Pam with two bonus grandchildren.

Professionally, Pam's career spanned several arenas. After earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of South Alabama, she ranged from managing import/export logistics, to serving as the Director of Education for the Houston March of Dimes where she led a campaign raising over $2M in 1984, to her longest role of over 30 years in medical practice management. Her drive to serve extended well beyond the office. She was a powerhouse volunteer. Whether she was coaching youth soccer, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, working on community projects with FBC Decatur, or teaching art to her childrens’ elementary classes, she was fully invested in her community.

Pam was a creative soul who saw potential in everything. She loved travel, gardening, and diving into home renovation and interior design projects. Her hands were rarely still, often busy quilting or scrapbooking the family memories she cherished so deeply. She was a charismatic storyteller who loved sharing her life story with anyone she met, but her favorite pastime was simply spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Pam was a passionate follower of Christ who lived her faith through her love and care for others. Her generosity, kindness, and genuine spirit were true reflections of her heart for God.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; her children, Allison, Matthew, David, and Aimee; and her beloved grandchildren, Leo, Luna, Theo, and Miles. She also leaves behind her mother, Dottie and her siblings, Reggie, Debbie, Jim, Stephen, Becky, Todd, Jon, and Josh. She was preceded in death by her father, James; her mama, Clara; and step-father, Trig.

A memorial service to honor Pam’s life will be held at 1pm Saturday, March 7th, at the Little Bohemian Hall in Silverhill, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to the March of Dimes. (You know she would have been allergic to them anyway.)
