Patsy Epps Loughran, a Southern lady whose life was a tapestry woven with grace, dedication, and love, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Fairhope, Alabama. Born on September 20, 1941, in Oxford, Mississippi, Patsy embraced life with warmth and style, leaving behind a legacy of a well-lived journey.
A proud graduate of Auburn University, Patsy's professional path reflected her compassionate spirit. She began her career as a dental hygienist before transitioning to speech pathology. Later, her steadfast devotion to her faith and community found a home at St Joseph's Church in Lincoln, California, where she served as a long-standing and beloved church secretary. Her work there was a testament to her nurturing nature and her unwavering dedication to service.
Patsy was a vibrant soul who raised her family with an elegance that defined her Southern roots. A loving military spouse for twenty years, she was first married to Captain Ronald E. Suladie, a U.S. Air Force Air Commando who gave his life to his country when his plane crashed while on a mission in the Panama Canal Zone in 1965. Their three-and-a-half-year loving marriage brought them two wonderful children, Sara Lynn and Scott. After Ron's death, Patsy was steadfast in raising her family through that tragedy and supported herself and her children for seven years before marrying another Air Force aviator, Edmund X. Loughran, in 1973. Their 45-year marriage would see the birth of Patsy's third child, Edmund II, and a well-lived life in the California Foothills and on the shores of Mobile Bay. There, she would love and support her family with remarkable strength and grace until Ed's passing in 2018. Their bond endures beyond this life, and she will reunite with him in eternal rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, a place befitting her devotion and sacrifice to her family and her country.
Throughout Patsy's life, her home was a sanctuary of joy and hospitality, where friends and family gathered amid laughter and culinary delights crafted by her skilled hands. An amazing cook, a tasteful decorator, and a student of the Bible, she possessed a rare combination of talents that brought light and comfort to all who knew her. She never missed a chance to dance, embodying a spirit unbound by age or circumstance.
She leaves behind a devoted and loving family who carry forward her legacy with honor and fond remembrance. Her children, Sara Lynn Loughran, Ronald Scott Loughran, and Edmund X. Loughran II, with his wife, Meaghan E. Loughran, and their daughters, Paty's grandchildren, Grace P. Loughran and Julia R. Loughran, continue to cherish her spirit. Patsy's sister, Martha Epps Davis, remains a steadfast presence with Patsy's children and grandchildren, holding close the memory of her cherished sister.
Patsy's eternal rest is joined by those who had already departed her life—her husbands, Ron and Ed, sister Sarah Epps Bauer, and parents, Guy Quinton Epps and Sarah Morgan Epps, all of whom shaped the foundation of her remarkable story.
In her final moments, Patsy was cradled by family, embraced by peace, and freed from pain—a serene departure that mirrors the tranquil dignity with which she lived. Her life invites us to remember not just the years she walked this earth, but the warmth, the dance, and the light she brought into the lives of so many.
She was, in every sense, a Southern lady whose grace, class, and love will forever ripple through the hearts she touched. Patsy's story is etched into the fabric of those who knew her, a lasting testament to a life well-loved and beautifully lived.
