Philaine Sue McRae Combs

Philaine Sue McRae Combs passed peacefully Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at The Retreat Hospice Care facility in Mobile, AL.

She was born in Jeffersonville, IN on October 21, 1935, to Buford & Edna McRae. She grew into a compassionate and vibrant individual.

She graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1952 then married E.B. Combs on August 28, 1953, and they had three daughters together, Delene (D.D.) Gamble, Deena Rae Montgomery & Dalelia Sue Combs.

She and her husband formed E.B. Combs Painting & Sandblasting, and they worked together as partners for many years. After the business closed, she worked for Accelerated Technology in Mobile, AL.

She had a passion for her family, crafts, plants, blue eyeshadow and bedazzling EVERYTHING.

She is preceded in death by her husband, E.B. Combs, her daughter, Dalelia Combs & her son-in-law, Hagan Gamble.

She is survived by her daughters, D.D. Combs Gamble and Deena Combs Montgomery (Ken), and grandsons Shawn Combs (Stephaine) and Hunter Back (Katie). She left behind 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, a Life-Partner, Frank Sullivan, special friends Kathy Kynaston & Ginger Sessions, her loving neighbors and many more beloved friends.

We held her Celebration of Life on her 90th Birthday surrounded by family & friends so there will be no memorial ceremony. Her request was that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
