Phillip C. Savage, Sr.

With grateful hearts and the promise of Christian salvation, we announce the passing of Phillip C. Savage, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home on October 10, 2026. Born on December 11, 1938, in Overton, Alabama, Mr. Savage lived a life marked by enduring love, loyalty and total dedication to his family and friends.

Phil was the cherished son of the late Hastings Savage and J.T. and Mildred Savage. He is predeceased by his older sisters, Peggy Fuquay and Sue Whearley. He leaves behind his wonderful wife, Carol Reed Savage; his sons, Phillip Collins Savage Jr. (Dorothy) and Dr. Joseph Carroll Savage; and his treasured grandchildren, Honor Blue Savage and Ever Brave Savage. "Big Sav" was also a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and a dependable friend to so many over the decades of his life.

A proud graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama, Phil excelled in athletics, earning All-State honors in football and All-City recognition in baseball. Known for his competitive toughness, his talents on the field were further showcased when he was selected to play in the Alabama North-South high school all-star football game in 1957.

Phil’s business career was one of dedication and leadership. He began working alongside his father at Gravely of Mobile, Inc. as a young boy and rose through the ranks to become President of the company from 1989 until 2000. His tenure as Vice President during the 1970s and 80s saw the family company reach unprecedented heights. He was admired for his expertise in lawn and garden equipment, sales and service and served on the advisory boards for Gravely International, AriensCo and the Snapper Manufacturing Company.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Phil was a creative soul with a passion for the arts. He found joy in painting, collecting guns and coins, and meticulously organizing family photographs. His artistic spirit and generous heart touched everyone he met. With his reliance on the Holy Spirit, Phil was always ready to offer encouragement or share a captivating story that would leave others in laughter and disbelief.

Often willing to give a helping hand, Phil was a long-time member of the Crichton Optimist Club, served as the athletic director for Mims Park football and made a significant contribution to the creation of the Mobile Youth Football Conference during his younger days. Since 1976, Mr. Savage took tremendous pride in being an original board member with the Historic Blakeley Foundation. His legacy of kindness and mentorship will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Big Sav's life will be celebrated on October 14, 2026, with an 11:00 AM visitation and a 12:00 PM service to follow at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 19698 Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL 36532. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Roads of Hope, a rescue mission for orphans in Moldova and war-torn Ukraine founded by his son, Dr. Joe Savage. Donations can be made here: www.roadsofhope.org/give or mailed to: PO Box 1032, Fairhope, AL 36533.

The Savage family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Daniel G. Cameron and the caring staff at Springhill Hospice, with special thanks to nurses London Naseman and Tina Arrington, as well as First Baptist Fairhope ministries, especially Sharon Pippin, Ryan Smith and Bill Stembridge, and the many family members and friends who have shown unwavering support during his time of illness.

A man's man with his 100% faith in Jesus Christ, Phil C. Savage, Sr. will be remembered as being a pillar of strength, a guiding light in the lives of those he touched and truly having a heart full of love for his family. His spirit lives on in the cherished memories and lasting influence he leaves behind.
