Priscilla Pitman Milling

June 2, 1947 — August 3, 2025

Fairhope

Priscilla Pitman Milling, age 78, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on August 3, 2025. She was born on June 2, 1947, to Ivy Cecil Pitman and Frances Middlebrooks Pitman. Pris was raised in Point Clear, Alabama and, after raising her family in Fairhope, Mobile and Fairfax, Virginia, returned there with her husband Bert in 1991.

Pris had a quick, contagious smile and laugh. A devoted wife and mother, she loved her family dearly. She found great joy in meeting and learning about people. She loved God and her friends. Pris wanted to hear every conversation at once and never miss a thing said. Even with hearing loss, she never accepted that that was not possible.

Pris wanted to be actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren. In the last year and a half, her bucket list consisted primarily of visits to her grandchildren to observe them in their natural habitats.

Pris felt completely at home in Point Clear and delighted in catching a fish or a blue crab. She also loved Fairhope and the mountains of Western North Carolina. Pris loved to travel but was always excited to return to her beloved Mobile Bay.

Pris attended Baldwin County Public Schools in Fairhope, Alabama, and graduated in 1965 from Julius T. Wright School for Girls in Mobile, Alabama. She married Bert William Milling, Jr. in 1966. Pris attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and graduated in 1993 from Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama. At graduation, she received the Toolen Award for highest grade point average. Pris was finishing her college education just as her children were pursuing theirs. She set the bar high, and it remains untouched.

She was a gifted communicator, especially to her family and friends. Pris could deftly convey important feelings and themes in both the written and spoken word, and she left a legacy of beautiful letters, cards and notes to friends and loved ones. She had a number of people who considered her their best friend, and she felt the same way about them.

Pris was predeceased by her parents and by her infant son, Bert William “Trey” Milling, III. She is survived by her husband Bert, her children Brooks Pitman Milling, Sr. (Sydney) , Jeremy Bacon Milling, Sr. (Myrtle), both of Mobile, and Maran Milling Grace (Wade) of Norcross, GA; her sister and next door neighbor Pamela Pitman Turner (Len); her grandchildren Nell Frances Milling of Mobile, Brooks Pitman Milling, Jr. and Charles Rutherford Milling of Auburn, Jeremy Bacon (Jeb) Milling, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY, Emilia Margaret Milling of Maryville, TN, William Lee Milling and Helen Murray Milling of Mobile, Sarah Catherine Grace, Margaret Frances Grace, and Charlotte Evelyn Grace, all of Norcross, Georgia; Bert’s siblings Stephen Russell Milling, Sr., Michael Philip Milling (Debbie), both of Mobile, James Patrick Milling (Julie) of Hood River Valley, OR, and Anne Marie Milling Dynan (Bill) of Atlanta, GA, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Pris and her family wish to thank Dr. Daniel Cameron and the other devoted professionals and volunteers at the Mitchell Cancer Institute in Fairhope for their capable and compassionate care during her illness, and especially for a beautiful and tender final eighteen months of her life.

Pris will be interred in a private family burial service. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at St. Francis at the Point Anglican Church, 17280 Scenic Hwy 98, Fairhope, AL 36532, on August 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at the church. The church will livestream the service on its Facebook page and make it available from its website afterwards.
