Rebecca (Becky) Sue Holliday, 78, of Daphne, Alabama (formerly Vandalia, IL) passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2026.
Becky was born in Vandalia, IL on April 21, 1948 to Harry and Harriet Cocagne. One of nine children that Harry and Harriet raised, she graduated from Vandalia High School in 1966 and stayed friends with many of her classmates over the years. Becky graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Alton, IL earning her RN licenses.
She met her husband, Walter (Happy) Holliday Jr. back in high school. They married on September 5th, 1970 and spent the next 53 years in a loving marriage until his passing in October of 2023. They would have three children, Brian, Sarah, and Greg who all spent their formative years in their hometown of Ramsey, IL
Becky, as she was known by all, worked in nursing her entire career. She spent many years working for Dr. Donald Rames in Vandalia where she met and treated generations of Vandalia and area residents with her loving, caring demeanor and smile. She served as the school nurse for Ramsey School District from 1984 until her move with her family to Daphne, Alabama in 1993. She continued to treat and care for the people of Daphne and Baldwin County Alabama with that same care and dedication with Dr. Thomas Sapp until 2012. The thousands of patients and faces she saw over the years will always remember greeting her the same way “Hello Becky.” Once you met her, you never forgot her.
Where Becky really shined, was just being “Becky” She never complained. She always had time for you. She would listen without being critical. She was there when you needed her. She would make you smile, laugh, and cry. Her sympathy, caring, and compassion shined through everyday and in everything she did. Family was what she loved the most. Her family is grieving the loss of a tremendous person who will be greatly missed. We are all blessed to have her as part of our lives but some of us got one better. We also got her as Mom.
Becky is survived by her son Brian and wife Ashley of Vandalia, IL, daughter Sarah and husband Joe Perkins of Stapleton, AL, son Greg Holliday and Stevie Giles of Pensacola, FL. Grandchildren: Quentin Holliday and his wife Jordan of Vandalia, IL Derek Holliday of Vandalia, IL, Blake Perkins of Stapleton, AL, Emersen Giles and Riley Holliday of Pensacola, FL and her great grand baby Dylan Holliday of Vandalia, IL
Services for Becky Holliday will be held at Wolfe- Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne, AL October 8th, 2026 from 5pm to 7pm. She will be buried with her husband October 9th, 2026 at 10am at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Sara Schnell, brothers John and Doug Cocagne, and many more angels on the Holliday and Cocagne sides of her family. She is home with them. We will all see you someday on the other side for that big family reunion.
