The Honorable Rick J. Kennon, 66, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away suddenly on April 9, 2026.
Rick was born in Cleburne, Texas, on August 13, 1959, to John Wesley Kennon and Jackie Ann Smith. He grew up alongside brothers Johnny, Greg, and Mike, learning the value of faith and hard work on their grandparents’ farm. He graduated from Cleburne High School in 1977, attended Baylor University on an academic scholarship, and later earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.
Rick devoted his life to serving others through the law. He worked as a prosecutor, served in the Office of the Attorney General, and later entered private practice in Central Texas. In 2013, he was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve as judge of the 368th District Court, later winning election to the bench. He retired in 2022 and continued to serve as a Senior Judge.
Rick was widely respected for his fairness, preparation, and unwavering dependability. He took great pride in his work and often said serving as a judge was the greatest honor of his life.
After retiring, Rick and his wife settled in Caldwell, where he became an active member of One Church Caldwell and served as Board President.
Outside of his work, Rick loved golf, time with friends, and quiet moments at home. Those closest to him knew a playful, affectionate man who loved deeply, laughed easily, and found joy in the simple things.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie, and her son Jack; his sons, Alex and Jacob; his stepsons, Trent and Randall; his mother, Jackie Wood; and his brothers, Johnny and Mike Kennon.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at One Church Caldwell (104 SH-21, Caldwell) Friday, April 24th at 6pm, and a second celebration at the Historic Williamson County Courthouse. Details will be announced.
Rick will be remembered as a man of faith, integrity, humility, and quiet strength—deeply devoted to his family and to the people he served.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judge Kennon's name to the Texas Alliance for Life or Happy Horse Haven rescue.
