Robert Adams Gibson, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the age of 78.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from West end High School, in Birmingham. He went on to the University of Alabama where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marine science.
Robert became an Oceanographer and worked at Harbor Branch in Florida. He did research on Diatoms. He was also doing research on marine life in the Bering Sea, off the Coast of Russia.
Robert was a member of Fairhope United Methodist Church. He was also an avid member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Baldwin County. He served as Flotilla Commander for 2 different Flotillas. He really enjoyed teaching the Boating Safety classes every spring.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Adams and Robert B. Gibson.
Robert is survived by his wife of over 16 years, Mary Beth Gibson, and his brother, Vernon H. Gibson (Sue) of Madison, AL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00am at Fairhope United Methodist Church, with Reverend Michael Precht officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am.
He will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Robert B. and Mary A. Gibson Scholarship at Fairhope United Methodist Church, at 155 S. Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama.
