Robert Foster Henson, III

It is with our heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert Henson III, a devoted family patriarch, respected community member, and cherished friend, who left us on July 7, 2026, at the age of 98 ½ years. Born on January 16, 1928, in Nashville, Tennessee, Robert lived a life adorned with love, adventure, and service. Robert was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Henson, with whom he shared a remarkable 71 years of marriage. Together, they built a life rich with love and family, weathering life's challenges with grace and gratitude. They were predeceased by their infant daughters, Leslie and Elizabeth, and their sons, James and Richard. Robert leaves behind a legacy in his son, Robert IV, and daughter-in-law, Anne, who carry forward his values and spirit. He was a proud grandfather to Robert Henson V, Laurel Henson, Leslie Howell (Josh), Walter Henson (Alan), George Crawford Henson, Elizabeth Britton (Ed), James Henson, and Richard Henson II (Amanda). His love extended to his nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who brought him immense joy and pride. Cynthia McDermott, like a daughter to Bob and Margaret, along with her husband Paul, held a special place in his heart. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Robert served his country with honor and dedication. His commitment to service continued throughout his life. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lillian, Alabama, where he was an active participant in faith and community life. He was also a proud member of the Lillian Optimist Club. He shared his passion of classic cars, as a member of the British Car Club, especially his beloved 1967 XKE Jaguar, which he showcased at British car shows. Robert and Margaret shared a love for adventure, exploring the world with his brother George and dear friend Mary Helen Short. Their travels created countless memories that enriched their lives and deepened their bonds.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 12688 South Santa Piedro Street, Lillian, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Robert's memory to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lillian, Alabama.

Robert's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the joy of shared moments. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
