YARBROUGH FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA Robert Newton Yarbrough, Jr., age 78, died at home on October 10, 2022. A private celebration of life will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, Alabama, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:30 in the morning. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Saint James Episcopal School in Fairhope, Alabama. Robert “Bobby” was born on July 27, 1944, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Robert Newton Yarbrough, Sr. and Mary Alice Terry Yarbrough. Bobby attended high school at The Webb School in Belt Buckle, Tennessee and college at The University of Alabama and Athens College, graduating with a degree in Education from Athens College. Bobby served in the U.S. Army for two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, Bobby returned to Huntsville and married Lourana Jones Moore of Camden, Alabama. Their first child, Mary Marcella Yarbrough was born in Huntsville in 1973 and shortly thereafter the family moved to Camden, Alabama. Their son, Robert Newton Yarbrough, III, was born in 1976. Bobby had a long career teaching in Wilcox County and retired in 1995 returning to Huntsville. He enjoyed an active retirement with his current wife, Judy Garvin Yarbrough. Bobby was the grandson of a founding member of the Byrd Springs Rod and Gun Club where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also managed the club operations for several years. An avid outdoorsman, Bobby leaves behind many colorful stories representing several generations of sportsmen. Bobby is preceded in death by his brother Terry Lee Yarbrough and is survived by his brother Walter Russey Yarbrough (Patricia) of Huntsville, wife Judy of Fairhope, daughter Mary Marcella Yarbrough Covington (Buddy) of Fairhope, son Robert Newton Yarbrough, III, of Fairhope, step daughter Virginia Kathryn Elam Dorlon (Todd) of Birmingham and three grandchildren Henry Harris Covington, V, Mary Marcella Covington, and Robert Newton Yarbrough, IV, all of Fairhope, and two step grandsons Coleman McCall Dorlon and John Wilson Magruder Dorlon of Birmingham.
