Samuel Walker Ledbetter III, age 54, passed away on August 10, 2026. Born on January 18, 1972, Sam lived a life marked by dedication, service, and devotion to those he loved. A third-generation soldier, he proudly served for 30 years in the Alabama Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Major. He deployed multiple times overseas and within the United States, and received many awards, medals, and accolades for his duty and sacrifices for his country.
Sam will be remembered for his strength, his love for guitars and music, and his contagious sense of humor. His service reflected the values he carried throughout his life: courage, responsibility, and love for family, friends, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of sacrifice and commitment that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Sam is preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel Walker Ledbetter Senior (Juanita) and Johnnie Gunter (Louise).
Sam is survived by his wife, Susie Ledbetter; Children, Brittany Hurley (Draven). and Joseph Hurley; Grandchildren, Terra, Marcy, and Dante "Buck". Parents, Samuel Ledbetter Jr (Donna); Sister, Gina Hooie (Mark) and his niece, Lilly Hooie.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 19698 Greeno Road, Fairhope, Alabama 36532. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. A chapel service will be held at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, 34904 AL-225, Spanish Fort, Alabama 36527. In honoring Samuel’s life, loved ones are encouraged to remember his faithful service, his devotion to others, and the lasting impact he made throughout his lifetime.
