SAMUEL GORDON JONES
Born on November 25, 1950, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Mr. Jones was the third child born to Thomas Stifel Jones and Bertha Beatrice (Harper) Jones. Sam passed away on April 13, 2026 at the age of 75.
His father was in the Army and they moved a few times in his younger years living in both Mississippi and Louisiana. After visiting Dauphin Island, the family “discovered” Fairhope. He attended Fairhope High School and was a Fairhope Pirate football player, later graduating with the class of 1968. He later went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Southern Mississippi in 1972.
Sam then answered the call to serve his country when he was commissioned in the Army. He completed 16 years of service, attaining the rank of Major while holding many key positions such as a Huey (helicopter) pilot and military police officer. He later went on to build a successful career in sales within the Foodservice Industry where he was known for his ability to build lasting relationships.
He met his greatest love, Laura Stearns, and the two were married in 1980. They were blessed with two children Thomas “Bo” and Kelly. His family shared many adventures and he created a life rich with friends, neighbors, and loved ones that became like family.
Sam loved grilling, golfing, hunting (duck and deer), fishing, boating, sunsets on Mobile Bay, thrifting, and hosting family and friends. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Fairhope Yacht Club, American Legion, and the President of the West Bend Country Club.
He loved to have a good time and never missed an opportunity to bring people together and make lasting memories. He never met a stranger, had a great sense of humor, and will be remembered for his faith, kindness, generosity, and selflessness.
Sam passed away on April 13, 2026 at the age of 75. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sally Marie Jones. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura, brother (John T. Jones) and sister (Sandra Jones Dixon); his son, Thomas “Bo” (Sarah Lacey Jones); and his daughter, Kelly Jones South (Taylor South); and his two cherished grandchildren, Charlotte and Samuel South.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to aid children with hearing loss to the Woolley Institute for Spoken-Language Education via Wise4AL.org, Alabama Hand and Voices, St. James Episcopal Church or American Legion # 199.
Service will be at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope Saturday, April 18th at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow, also at St. James.
