My Sweet Lil Mama has passed from this life and on to the next - I never imagined such a day would come so soon! I have never experienced such a bewildering state of mind as I have in the recent past! This just wasn’t supposed to happen like this… Mom was regarded as one of the most conscientious and “healthiest” human beings around, yet Cancer has claimed another beautiful soul! Sandra (Sam) Richardson Dumas, cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and dear friend to many, departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025. She entered this world in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was raised in Memphis, TN. For the last two decades, she called Fairhope, AL, her home.
Sam was a remarkable individual, whose diverse talents shone brightly throughout her life. She dedicated herself to various careers, each reflecting her boundless compassion and deep affection for others. She embarked on her professional journey in sales, serving as an account executive at Kelly Services. Throughout her professional journey, she ascended the ranks of management at Norrell Corporation, contributing her talents in both Memphis and Nashville, TN. In her later years, she found fulfillment in her consulting business, collaborating with numerous real estate professionals along the Gulf Coast. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to advocating for numerous charities, and organizations that represented the less fortunate reflecting her enduring commitment to uplifting those in need.
In her final days, she found joy in the company of friends and family, sharing warm embraces and imparting her ever-optimistic outlook on life. In addition to her dedication to her career, she will be remembered most fondly for her cherished roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest joy was found in the presence of her family and friends, relishing both intimate conversations and the warmth of large gatherings. Her passion for serving others was truly remarkable. Her residence stood as a testament to warmth and commitment, a sentiment echoed by the countless visitors who graced her door throughout the years. Her affection for friends and family was profound, yet their love for her surpassed even that depth.
Sam is preceded by her beloved husband of 16 years, James (Jim) Dumas, and their four cherished sons: Richard Bacon (Christi), Kevin Dumas (Kerry), David Dumas (Brenda), and Steven Dumas (Paula). She is remembered fondly by her sisters, Becky Smith (Gary) and Chris Robinson (Warren), her nieces, Tara Doss (Brock) and Erika Larrabee (Josh), her nephews, Drew Cothern (Megan) and Brant Cothern, preceded in death by her parents, Hollan Richardson and Jean Richardson. We would be remiss without mentioning Sydnee and Ema, Sam's beloved granddaughters. Her sweet girls brought joy and purpose to her days, illuminating her life with their presence. She embraced each moment spent with them, enveloping them in endless affection, comfort, and insight.
Her unwavering commitment to them was profound, and the pride she felt in their every achievement reflected the immense happiness they brought into her life. For Sam, the role of grandmother transcended mere duty; it was her most cherished blessing and an everlasting source of joy.
A gathering to honor her life, a life well-lived will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, AL, on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of other gestures, kindly direct all floral tributes to St. James Episcopal Church located in Fairhope, AL
