Sarah Elizabeth Coesens, lovingly known as Liz, passed away on February 25, 2026, at her home in Foley, Alabama, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on September 14, 1943, in Elberta, Alabama, Liz was a cherished figure in her family and community, embodying a spirit of selflessness and love.
A devoted wife to her husband of 64 years, James Coesens, Liz was the cornerstone of her family, always putting others before herself. She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Joe) Dillon and Dianna (Robert) Irwin, and her son, Brian Coesens. Liz's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ashton (Robert) VanWynen, Paige Edwards, Tyler (Micah) Irwin, Will Dillon, and Christopher Coesens. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Alli, Braxton, Aiden, Chloe, Jase, Fisher, Delta, Able, Addie, Oaklynn, and Cohen, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Liz is remembered not only for her warm and caring personality but also as a devoted sister to Edna Holloway and brother Leroy Padgett.
As we honor the memory of Liz Coesens, we also reflect on those who have predeceased her. She is reunited in spirit with her infant son, James Coesens; her parents, William and Irene Padgett; as well as her brothers Mac Padgett, Eddie Padgett, Hill Padgett, Howard Padgett, and Clinton Padgett, and her sister, Ruth Hughes.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley, Alabama, on March 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow. The family invites all those whose lives were touched by Liz to join in celebrating her remarkable life and the profound impact she had on everyone around her.
Liz Coesens will be deeply missed, remembered for her unwavering love and commitment to her family, and her extraordinary ability to put others first.
