Shelia Pennington Nelson

Shelia Pennington Nelson, age 76, a longtime resident of Daphne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Shelia was born on June 11, 1949, in Crestview, Florida, to Ralph and Bessie Pennington, who later became Bessie Britton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Larry Coleman Nelson II.

Shelia is survived by the love of her life, Larry Coleman Nelson Sr. of Crestview, Florida; her son, Bradley Nelson of Daphne, Alabama; and her daughter, Dameron “Niecee” Nelson of Mobile, Alabama; and her daughter-in-law, Megan Nelson of Savannah, Georgia, wife of the late Larry Coleman Nelson II. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Annaliese (Keith) Kittrell, Kaitlin Nelson, Alexander “Cole” Nelson, Isabella Nelson, and Jackson Nelson, along with several great-grandchildren. Shelia is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Diane (James) Barnhart, Michael (Brigitte) Pennington, and Paula Pennington.

Shelia retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Chief Resource Analyst after 43 years of dedicated service. Her career was marked by excellence, integrity, and deep commitment.

Shelia was known for her unwavering love for her family and her quiet strength. She touched the lives of all who knew her with kindness, grace, and gentle humor. Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will live on through the family she held so dear.

Funeral services will be held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 27409 U.S. Highway 98 in Daphne, Alabama on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Live Oak Cemetery, 112 North Avenue E in Crestview, Florida, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation in honor of Shelia’s memory. This cause was especially near and dear to her heart, in tribute to her late son, Larry Coleman Nelson II, and in support of her son, Bradley Nelson.
