Stanley Lamar Patterson, a dedicated public servant, beloved family man, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the William F. Green Veterans Home. Born on November 21, 1948, in Chickamauga, Georgia, Stanley’s life was marked by devotion to family, faith, and service.
Lamar proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era, demonstrating early on his commitment to protecting and serving others. Shortly after, Lamar was drawn to the coast and moved to Mobile, AL to build a life and start a loving family.
Lamar’s professional career was largely defined by over 28 years of diligent service with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department, where he retired as a sergeant. Throughout his tenure, he furthered his dedication to public safety and community welfare by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from The University of South Alabama. Lamar was known for his leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his duties, qualities that earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike.
Beyond his career, Lamar was a man of many talents. He was an exceptional cook and grill master, delighting in preparing meals that brought his family together. His hobbies reflected his warm and nurturing character, including gardening, watching Alabama football, studying and discussing the Bible, and enjoying his favorite television programs. Lamar always had a great sense of humor and relished playful moments with those around him. He was an honest man who communicated with directness and truth, never afraid to say what was on his mind.
Lamar’s faith was central to his life, a source of strength and comfort that he cherished deeply alongside his loved ones. His faith in Christ, and pride in his children and grandchildren was evident to all who knew him. He truly embodied the spirit of care, always eager to look after and support those he loved.
He is survived by his two sons, Joseph Lamar Patterson (Jenna) and Price Lynn Patterson; his daughter, Marla Lauber (Lydell), his sister, Joan Watson, (Johnny). Lamar was a proud Papa to Kinsley Kate Lauber and Emery Ann Lauber, who each held a very special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Charles Patterson and Pauline Price Patterson, as well as his brother, Larry Patterson (Andrea).
Lamar’s family meant everything to him, and he will be remembered as a pillar of strength, love, and joy within his family circle. His memory will endure through the lives he touched, his legacy of kindness and compassion, and the beautiful moments shared with those closest to him.
