Stephen Carl Johnson, affectionately known as Steve, was born on June 11, 1950, in Waltham, Massachusetts. He departed this world peacefully in his sleep on November 20, 2025, in Fairhope, Alabama. He lived a life dedicated to service, family, and faith.
Steve's impressive career spanned over 30 years at Raytheon, where he worked in various capacities, including notable assignments in Iraq. His commitment to duty also extended into his military service, where he proudly served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. During his distinguished military career, he was mobilized for the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. He also achieved top fitness levels and left a legacy of dedication and honor.
Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was a devoted family man who took immense pride in his role as a husband and father. He deeply cherished his wife, Doreen Johnson, who was by his side throughout their journey together. Steve instilled values of love and faith in his children, including Lindsey Speckmiear and her husband Tyler, as well as his son, Gregory Johnson and his wife Genine. He was a doting grandfather to Noah Speckmiear, creating cherished memories that will forever be a part of his family's story.
Known for his great sense of humor, Steve was a social butterfly who loved sharing stories and making others laugh. His ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure in his community. Steve loved making blueberry pancakes for his family, which brought joy to his children. He had a soft spot for ice cream, readily indulging in it at any time.
A man of deep faith, Steve was a born-again Christian who made it a priority to bring his children to church and shared his beliefs whenever possible. His love for God was evident in every aspect of his life, influencing those around him and fostering a strong sense of community.
In addition to his devotion to family and faith, Steve had a passion for nature and enjoyed running. He also had a keen interest in the financial markets, relishing the intricacies of buying and selling stocks and bonds. In quieter moments, he could often be found watching the History Channel, indulging his curiosity about the world.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Doreen Johnson; son, Gregory Johnson; daughter-in-law, Genine Johnson; daughter, Lindsey Speckmiear; son-in-law, Tyler Speckmiear; grandson, Noah Speckmiear; sister, Lucille Moccio; brother-in-law, Robert Moccio; sister, Charlotte Gibson; and brother-in-law, Cary Gibson. He was preceded in death by his deeply missed father, Arthur Johnson; mother, Marguerite Johnson; and siblings Howard Johnson, Priscilla Berman, and David Johnson.
Steve's legacy as a devoted family man, a proud serviceman, and a cherished friend will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered fondly, ensuring that his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those he touched.
Funeral services will be held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home Fairhope, Al. Chapel on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope Cemetery.
