Gulf Shores

Stephen Edward Sholtis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on May 30, 1949, in Laurel, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, in Gulf Shores, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

Steve was a man of humility and warmth, often finding his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. His family was the essence of his existence, shining brightly as the light of his life. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Business Administration in 1971. In 1979, Steve embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, co-founding Threaded Fasteners with his brother-in-law, Frank Martin. Under their dedicated leadership, the company flourished, becoming a well-established manufacturer and distributor in the Southeast, exceeding all expectations.

Steve cherished every moment spent with his family. He loved planning vacations in the Florida Keys, where sun-soaked days were spent on the water, enjoying the company of loved ones aboard their boat, listening to music, and soaking up the sun. He found great joy in taking his grandchildren to the pier for fishing adventures, where patience and laughter filled the air. Steve was also an avid motorcyclist, relishing the thrill of rides through the Blue Ridge Parkway with his friends, as well as lively outings on his beloved BMW bike. His passion for golf brought him closer to his family and friends, as they shared countless rounds on the greens surrounded by laughter and camaraderie.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Reid Sholtis, and their children: Jonathan Edward Sholtis, alongside his wife Renee; Stephanie Cancellieri and her husband Rob; and Stephen Reid Sholtis, with his wife Meaghan. The joy of his life extended to his grandchildren: Sophia Sholtis, Oliver Sholtis, Eva Cancellieri, Edward Cancellieri (Teddy), August Cancellieri (Gus), Nathan Sholtis, and Henry Sholtis, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply.  Each of them loved their “Papa”,

He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters Darlene McDonald(Bobby) and Patricia Yates (Randy, and his sisters in law Joan Martin (Frank), Kathy Acton (Keith), and Jennifer Plaskett (Mike).

Steve was surrounded by his loving family during his long illness with pancreatic cancer.  He passed away assured of his faith in God.  He said his bags were packed and he was ready to go!

In lieu of flowers Steve would like donations be given to M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Gulf in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on May 30th at 1:00 PM, with a reception to follow at the church hall.
