Stephen Calvin Vogle, 66, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, after a short and valiant fight against cancer.
Steve was born on November 2, 1958, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He loved growing up in the country in Saucier, MS, where he and his siblings shared childhood responsibilities caring for animals and growing fruits and vegetables, while also enjoying fishing in the pond and exploring the woods behind their home.
Steve earned his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1981 and worked as an accountant while applying to become an FBI Special Agent. After being accepted in 1983, he excelled at working cases throughout the U.S. over a thirty-year career. He played a significant role in the New Orleans, LA, and Mobile, AL, offices, where he was known for his strong work ethic and for being instrumental in advancing the FBI's technology program nationwide. He was a 9/11 responder, arriving in New York the day after the attacks to assist with the investigation.
After retiring from the FBI, Steve began a second career as a global procurement specialist, first at DuPont de Nemours, Inc., and later at The Chemours Company. He was a visionary leader, known for his dedication, strategic insight, commitment to excellence, and care for his team. A skilled negotiator, he contributed significantly to Chemours’ success and growth.
Steve’s pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted father who read bedtime stories, coached softball, volunteered with the family at church, and cherished sitting down for family dinners. He never missed an opportunity to gather with his large extended family for holidays, beach vacations, and birthday celebrations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Muriel Vogle; his brother-in-law, Michael Cannady; and his nephew, Nicholas Newsom.
Steve is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Vogle; his daughters, Rachel (Madison) Carrey, Mary Vogle, and Ellen Vogle; his granddaughters, Norah Carrey and Charlotte Carrey; and his five siblings, Catherine Cannady, William (Stephanie) Vogle, Julianna (Orlando) Gallego, Cynthia Ladnier, and Patricia (Kevin) Hubbard; his sister-in-law, Mary K. Holliday; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Fairhope United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by the service at 4:00 p.m., and a reception in the Christian Life Center (CLC) fellowship hall.
