Steve Leroy James, U.S. Army SSG retired, age 76, a resident of Gulf Shores, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. He was a past commander of the VFW, member of the American Legion, Elks, and Fraternal order of Eagles.
Steve was born in Long Beach California in 1949 to parents Clifford and Deloris (Branham) James. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Stefanie Fluet; brother, Clifford E James, Jr.; brother, Michael James; father, Clifford E James; mother, Joyce James; grandmother Verna Ann Germany; mother Deloris.
Steve is survived by his daughter Jo-Anne Fletcher (Timothy) of MA; son, Jerry James (Melissa) of WA; grandchildren: Taylor Fletcher (Kate) of MD; Johanna James of MA; Grace James of WA; Braydon James of WA; Nicole Fluet of MA; Alexander Fluet of MA, brother George James (Gay) of AL; sister in law, Suzie James of AL, and nephew Chris James (Katharine) of AL along with many other loving relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL., at 11:00am on Monday, October 20, 2025.
To honor Steve’s memory, donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
