Susan Sisson Booker

May 21, 1932 — September 27, 2023

Susan Sisson Booker, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama died on September 27, 2023, surrounded by her pets and friends. She was 91. Born May 21, 1932 in Grant Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. Sisson, a prominent attorney in Marion County Indiana. Susan was an excellent student having graduated with honors from Marion High School and Indiana University. She had a long career of teaching English to 5th, 6th and 7th graders in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and eventually retiring from the Michigan School District. Susan loved reading and was always the first to garner a copy of the latest novels so that she could discuss it with her friends. Later in life she became an avid listener of audio books. Susan spent many summers at Bois Blanc Island accessible by boat only, located in Northern Michigan. She enjoyed retirement years as a “snowbird” wintering at her home in Fairhope, Alabama and spending the warm months at her mountain home in Seven Devils, North Carolina. Susan is predeceased by her husband Gene Stewart Booker (m. Oct. 6, 1951; d. 8/15/2012), Father Robert M. Sisson, Mother Thelma A. Sisson, brother Richard E. Sisson, and brother Phillip R. Sisson. Survivors include many close friends, sister-in-law Sandra J. Booker of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; niece Patricia Booker (Gary Scheib) of Paris, Virginia; nephew Stewart C. Booker of Boulder, Colorado (Ricki); great nephew Cameron B. Scheib; great nieces Daisy Booker and Charley Booker. Susan loved dogs and cats and enjoyed having Bulldogs, Mastiffs, Jack Russells and especially Scottish Terriers. Susan loved walking her pets, photographing nature, and conversing with her friends. Susan never missed wishing a loved one happy birthday or any other special occasion. She was quite the social butterfly and will be dearly missed by her many loving friends and extended family, along with her much beloved dog Dexter and cat Walter. Donations may be made in honor of Susan Booker to Ecumenical Ministries, 564 Fairhope Ave., Fairhope, AL 36532.
