Thomas Howard Ewing, age 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home in Elberta, Alabama, on April 19, 2026.
He was born on March 25, 1951, in Gasque, Alabama, to Andrew Julius Ewing and Evelyn Francis Callaway. A lifelong resident of Baldwin County, Howard was a loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was married to his high school sweetheart, the late Betty Jean Hand, for 50 years. Together, they had four children, who have given them 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his eldest son, Thomas “Tommy” Ewing; and siblings, Myrtle Ewing, Rena Schoetzow, and Julius Ewing.
He is survived by his three children, Chris (Julie) Ewing, Albert Ewing, and Rose (Josh) Riggan; daughter-in-law, Crystal Ewing; grandchildren, Natosha (Koda) Vick, Brittany Nims, Taylor (Curtis) Steadham, Tristan (Mikayla) Ewing, Hunter Riggan, Jordan Ewing, Ethan Ewing, and Cherilyn Ewing; great-grandchildren, Bo Miller, Sebastian Ewing, Jaxton Steadham, Dallas Ewing, and Josephine Steadham; brothers and sisters, Audrey Callaway, Andrew “Buddy” Ewing, Deloris Maxson, Ira (Patty) Ewing, Ella Strausser Cabaniss, Frances (Don) Bresher, Louis (Debra) Ewing, and Walter Lee (Mary Jane) Ewing; sister-in-law, Alyce Ewing; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
As we mourn Howard’s loss, we also celebrate an incredible life of love and tenacity. Among other things, he will be remembered for his social and generous nature, and, of course, for never failing to crack a joke. Howard will be deeply missed, but will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
