Wendy Lawson Spence, a vibrant spirit with an infectious smile and a heart full of love, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 7, 2026, in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Born on July 9, 1964, in Memphis, Tennessee, Wendy brought joy to everyone she met through her humor, laughter, and immense personality.
Wendy's life was a testament to her dedication and passion. As a professional golfer on the LPGA Tour, she not only showcased her talent on the greens but also left an indelible mark by playing in the Women's U.S. Open twice. Following her golfing career, she transitioned into the role of a PGA club professional, where she spent many years honing her craft and developing enduring relationships, notably meeting her beloved husband, Jay Spence, at Lake Forrest Country Club. For the past 17 years, she devoted herself to her work at Eastern Shore Toyota, where she navigated various roles and ultimately served as a Finance Assistant until her last day.
Wendy was not only a remarkable professional but also an incredible family member. Her devotion to her loved ones was unwavering; she cared deeply for her parents and was an adoring "Wen Wen" to her cherished grandchildren, Karlie and Jamesson. Wendy's bond with her daughter, Kayla Carn, and niece, Emily Lawson Daly, illuminated her family life, as did her loving partnership with her husband Jay, with whom she shared over 22 wonderful years of marriage.
Known for her unique sense of humor, Wendy could light up any room with her witty remarks and engaging presence. Her ability to joke around and be silly brought laughter to all, and each memory created with her will forever be cherished. She played a significant role in the Apollo's Mystic Ladies Mardi Gras Association, dedicating the last ten years to organizing events that exemplified her commitment to community and celebration. Just the night before her passing, Wendy reveled in the joys of life at the association's annual Mardi Gras Ball, surrounded by beloved friends and fellow members.
Wendy leaves behind her adoring husband, Jay Spence; her loving mother, Sylvia Joyce Lawson; her daughter, Kayla Carn, and son-in-law, Kyle Carn; her dear niece, Emily Lawson Daly, and her husband, Colin Daly; along with her grandchildren, Karlie and Jamesson, who were the pride and joy of her life.
She is predeceased by her father, Henry James Lawson, and her brother, Henry James ("Jim") Lawson, Jr. Wendy's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unyielding strength, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
