Wilhelmina Todd

d. September 5, 2023

Wilhelmina Marie Richardson Todd, age 81, died of heart complications on September 5, 2023, at her residence of 61 years in Fairhope, Alabama.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Paul Leighton Todd; her three children, Paula Bosarge (Arthur “Bubba”), Anne Middleton (David), and David Todd (Dawn); her siblings, Francis “Puddin’” Primo Richardson, Glen James Richardson, Bruce Wayne Richardson; ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Sylvester Richardson, Martha Mathilda Herbert Richardson, and Bessie Marie Persons Richardson; her siblings, Walter Eugene Richardson, Martha Irene Gazzier, Linda Diane Darden, Mary Elizabeth Stickney, and Mabel Ann Joullian.

Wilhelmina, or “Willie” to some, was born on October 18, 1941 in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Coden, Alabama with her five siblings.  After losing her mother, Martha, in a car accident at a young age, her father took a new bride, Marie Persons, and together they had three more children.  In 1950, at the age of eight, Wilhelmina and her family moved to Fairhope, Alabama for her father to work at Fairhope Creamery, and in 1959 she graduated from Fairhope High School.

In 1962, she married Paul Todd and settled in a house that Paul’s father built for the two of them in Fairhope’s “Fruit and Nut District” where they still reside.

Wilhelmina was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope for over 73 years.  She was involved in missions, music, committees, and was a church secretary for 15 years during which time she was a part of the initiation of the Senior Adult Ministry known as Jublieers.

Family was a huge part of Wilhelmina’s life – she had an enormous reservoir of love to give to every one of her family members, and she was repaid in her last days by being surrounded by so many of those on whom she bestowed love.  Anyone who knew her knew a woman who always bent over backwards to make you feel welcome and at ease.  There was always a compliment or a kind word waiting on her lips for you. She possessed a razor-sharp mind, an amazing attention to detail, and a playful sense of humor, even up to the very end.  She had a deep love for music and art, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Paul and their children thank everyone for the visits, prayers, meals, and other expressions of love in her honor.

Wilhelmina requested to be cremated.  The Todd family will receive friends and family at 504 Horton Lane on Thursday, September 7 from 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Mission Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church Fairhope, 300 South Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532. Contact Paula at 251-510-2487 with questions.
