William Hugh “Bill” Blackwood III, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Fairhope, Alabama, on April 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1933, Bill graduated from Georgia Tech before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. After his service, he went on to have a successful career as an industrial engineer, where his expertise and dedication earned him great respect in his field.
Bill especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. An avid fisherman, he found joy and peace on the water. A man of deep faith, Bill served as a deacon and was passionate about studying and teaching God’s word. His love for scripture and his dedication to sharing it left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his brother, David Blackwood (Elizabeth Blackwood); his daughter, Nancy Blackwood Capasse (Gene Capasse); and his grandsons, Patrick Capasse (Meredith), and their children Hugh and Nora, and Christopher Capasse (Devin).
He is also survived by his step-daughter Beverly James (Tracy James), and their children: James “Chaz” Bruno (Damny Alvarado) and their children Annalise and Jayce; and Jessica Gautreau (Cody Gautreau) and their children Canyon and Mack. Step-daughter Belinda Guillot (Clint Guillot) and their children: Cody Paul (and his son Corbin) and Gracie. Step-son James “Trey” Bowers (Jill Bowers) and their daughter Caroline.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Hugh Blackwood, Jr., and mother, Savannah Ruth Blackwood; his beloved first wife, Ann Gowan Blackwood, and beloved second wife, Clarice Bowers Blackwood; and his son, Mark William Blackwood.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, Alabama. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, faith, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
