William Don Smith

William Don Smith, son of the late Mary Louise Strickland and William Albert Smith, went home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2026 at the age of 76 in Spanish Fort, AL surrounded by family.

Don was born August 11, 1949 in Eufaula, Alabama. A 30 year United States Coast Guard veteran, Don (aka Smitty) retired as a W4 Warrant Officer and started his own consulting business Mobile Marine Services where he worked an additional 15 years before retiring. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and an active member of Eastern Shore Baptist Church, where he used his talents to build wheelchair ramps for those in need. Don loved to plan, build and fix, and spend time with family and friends, and was given the nickname “Shifty” for his game night antics.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carletta Smith, his son Tony Smith (Kassie) and his grandsons, Jordan and Walker Smith, his sisters Pat Stephan and Joyce (Darrel) Manuel and his brother Randy (Beth) Eisenhardt, his brother-in-law Carl Lee, his sister-in-law Rhonda (Tommy) McCormick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 25th at 10am at Eastern Shore Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11am. Don will be laid to rest at the Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at 1:00pm

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Don’s honor to Eastern Shore Baptist Church Missions Fund.
