William Randall Ray, affectionately known to all as Bill, passed away on November 20, 2025, in Orange Beach, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and a deep love for family. Born on September 1, 1954, in Kingsville, Texas, Bill's spirit was as expansive as the skies he loved while driving his semi-truck across the country and operating heavy equipment, a career that brought him joy and satisfaction.
Bill was a man of many talents and passions. A devoted family man, he cherished any time spent with loved ones, whether it was on the boat during sun-soaked summers or around the dinner table sharing a delicious chili he proudly crafted. His nickname, the “captain of the boat,” perfectly encapsulated his joyful and adventurous spirit, always steering his family toward fun-filled moments and memories that would last a lifetime.
Known for his welcoming personality, Bill never met a stranger. He was the life of the party, infusing each gathering with his great sense of humor and infectious laughter. His love for Whataburger was legendary, and he had a unique way of making even the simplest moments enjoyable. He could often be found woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces that reflected his creativity and skill, often gifted to family members as tokens of his love.
Bill is survived by his beloved spouse, Colleen Ray, whose love and laughter complemented his own. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of family: his father, Donald (Bubba) Ray; his stepmother, Celia Ray; his sisters, Sharon Marsh, Cathy McCallister, and Vanessa Ray; his brother, Michael McCallister; his sons, Randall Ray and Jason Norris; and his daughter, Michelle Maddix. He was a proud father-in-law to Kelly Ray and a cherished grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. As the family continues to grow, so too does the legacy of love that Bill has established, filled with fond memories and countless smiles.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patsy McCallister; and brothers, Freddy Ray and Robert Ray. Though they have departed, they are certainly never forgotten, their spirits forever intertwined with Bill’s journey.
A visitation will be held on November 24, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at Foley Chapel, located at 2551 S McKenzie St, Foley, AL 36535. Collectively, we gather to celebrate a life well-lived and to honor the man who brought so much love and laughter to our lives. Bill’s presence may be physically gone, but the warmth of his heart and the love he shared will endure in all who were lucky enough to know him.
