Young Charles Earle, Jr. (Charlie) passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday September 30, 2024. His mind was sharp, but his body just gave out. He was a born giver and generous to a fault. He was always the first to lend a helping hand and philanthropy was his speciality. He was always quick with a joke or an anecdote. He was the definition of a "Southern Gentleman".
After his family, his passions were cooking, eating, and having fun. He also loved fishing, horticulture, the great outdoors, and was a dog lover.
Charlie was born in Mobile, but grew up in Blacksher, Al, and raised on a farm in a logging community in rural Baldwin County. This was certainly an attribute to his strong work ethic and his willingness to help his fellow man. He graduated from Baldwin County High School in 1954 and then graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (War Eagle!) in 1958. After college, Uncle Sam requested his presence in Germany for (4) years where he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962. There he earned The Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
In 1959, Charlie married Patricia K. Randa (Pat Earle) and they spent their early married years in Germany. After they returned to the U.S., they settled on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay and started a family and a lengthy Real Estate career.
Charlie was instrumental in founding Bayside Academy. He helped secure the property, served as a past board president, and passed the hat when the teachers needed to be paid. He secured funds to grow Thomas Hospital and served as the Thomas Hospital Foundation Chairman from 1993 - 1995 and on the Thomas Hospital Board from 2000 - 2006. A long time member of the Baldwin County Board of Realtors and instrumental in developing the board in the 1970's. He was a past president and realtor of the year. He helped create the TAV foundation, which is a college scholarship program for Baldwin County High School Seniors.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat Earle and (2) children - Young Charles Earle Ill (Pam) and Adrienne Earle Wood (Hoss). The family includes a brother-in-law Pete Randa (Caroline) and their children - Jeff Randa (Anna), children Skyler, Sadie Lee, Pax and Hunter Randa
(Jennifer), child Hayes, a maternal cousin Ann Webb (Denny) of Atlanta. Charlie is preceded in death by his brother, Jim Earle.
Our family would like to thank you for being a part of his life.
He has donated his body to The South Alabama Medical program. There will be a Celebration of life at St. James Episcopal Church on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall after the service - all are welcome.
